How To Activate Windows 10 For Free By Using The CMD

It has been quite some time since I’ve been using Windows 10 as my operating system (eight months or so to be exact) and this operating system has been my favorite one since then.

So much so that I have installed over my brother’s PC as well.

But once I have installed this on both of our desktops, I see that disturbing watermark on the lower right side on my computer which says “Activate Windows“.

Then I have tried the old school method which probably, you have tried as well. Such as…

Going to the file manager and then right-clicking on an empty space. Then clicking on his option which says “properties”.

And from there under the header “Windows activation” you will see this thing which says “Windows is not activated”.

From there you click on the option on the extreme right which says “Activate Windows” and then after you click on that, you still get no benefits as there are various requirements such as the “activation key“.

And there are various downfalls for not activating Windows 10. Firstly, you simply cant customize your Windows 10 computer and you will have to stick with that disturbing watermark. Secondly, your computer will have a great risk of being troubled by viruses and other threats.

Well for this I’ve bought you two simple and easy methods which won’t take you more than a few minutes to implement them and you will have successfully activated windows 10 in your PC for free by using the command prompt.

Simply open up your command prompt and paste a few codes there and you are good to go.

The Windows 10 activation process in full-depth (step-by-step)

This is perhaps the easiest and also the safest method you’ll ever find to activate Windows 10, that too for free without needing an activation/product key. By simply using your command prompt and without needing any software.

The command prompt isn’t something which you will use on your normal day to day use. It is just one special feature through which you can type in various commands for your Windows 10 PC and accomplish them. You can learn more about the command prompt by visiting this link here.

And now I’m gonna walk you through step by step on how to activate Windows 10 for free by using your command prompt. So without a further ado, let’s get started…

Firstly you have to know the type of Windows 10 edition you have. So for that, you go to your search box and type in “control panel”. After that, you click on that “Control Panel” application.

And then click on this option named as “System and security”.

And after that, you will be taken to another new tab and from there click on this option named “System”.

From there you will see your Windows 10 edition.

Then you open up your command prompt as administrator. To do so simply type in “cmd” or “command prompt” in your search box and then you will see the command prompt application appear. All you do is right-click on that application and “Run as administrator“.

After that, you type in the following code:

cscript slmgr.vbs /ipk “Paste the product key according to your Windows 10 edition”

So all you do is paste the following code and a product key based on the type of Windows 10 edition you have.

So for example, my computer runs with the “Windows 10 Home Single Language” edition. So I type in the following code:

cscript slmgr.vbs /ipk 7HNRX-D7KGG-3K4RQ-4WPJ4-YTDFH’

After pasting the code (according to your Windows 10 edition) you press enter.

Then you will get a message saying product key installed successfully.

And then you paste in the following code:

cscript slmgr.vbs /skms kms.lotro.cc

And after that, you paste this last code:

cscript slmgr.vbs /ato

After that, you will have a message saying “product activated successfully” in your Windows 10 computer. Which means that you have successfully activated your Windows 10 PC. And all you do now is simply restart your computer and you are good to go 😉

Another way to activate Windows 10 by using the command prompt

This is another method through which you can activate Windows 10 that too by using your command prompt. All you do is paste a code (which we will mention below) in your notepad and run that notepad file as administrator.

Simply follow the above steps…

Firstly you open up a new text document (your notepad). You can simply fo this by right clicking on an empty area and then click on “new” and then click on “text document”. Or either way, you can type in “notepad” in your search box and it will come up.

You can name the notepad file anything you want. In my case scenario, I’ll be naming it “Activate Windows 10”.

After that, you paste the following code into your notepad…

After that, you save that file in your desktop with a “.bat” extension. You just name your file anything you want and just add a “.bat” to it in the end.

For example, I wanna save my file name as “Activate Windows 10” so I save it as “Activate Windows 10.bat”.

And also, do set the “Save as type” as “All files”.

And then you simply right click on that file and “Run as administrator“.

You will then see your command prompt open up. It might take some time for your command prompt to run the code (give it around two to five minutes).

And then you will get this message which says “product activated successfully“. You will then see your watermark disappear as well. Which means you have successfully activated your Windows 10 computer for free by using the command prompt.

Also, don’t forget to restart your PC after finishing this method.

Remove the “Activate Windows” watermark by using the registry

This is a bonus method where I would be showing you how you can use your registry in your Windows 10 computer to remove the “Activate Windows” watermark.

To implement this go through the following process…

Firstly press your Windows key and R together. And then you will open up your Run command.

And there you type in “regedit”.

Also, if you get any notifications which ask your permission to open the registry, simply accept it.

After that simply paste in the following location in the address box… Sap on oracle rac.

ComputerHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicessvsvc

There you will see this file named as “Start”.

And you double click on that file and change its value data from three to four.

After this, you will see your “Activate Windows” watermark go away once and for all.
