- edited October 2017Many custom ingredient havestable recipe mod developers have switched over to requiring CCLoader to make their creations work. It's an ingenious mod that quietly acts as a custom loader for these items. All you have to do with it is toss into Mods/Packages like any other package file. For the custom ingredients, harvestables, and recipe mods themselves, check out the creations of icemunmun, cinderellimouse, douglasveiga all at MTS. Be careful with icemunmun's as she also develops for TS4 and you don't want to get TS4 mod files mixed in with TS3. My sims now have so many harvestables to garden and recipes to learn that it's almost impossible for any of them to get anywhere near 100% learned unless they are extremely focused and dedicated to the tasks at hand. But then very few people in the real world really know how to grow and cook everything there is on the planet.

To further extend the ways sims work with food (and beverages), also look for icarus_allsorts' mods at MTS.
To enhance the capabilities of the bakers oven displays and racks, there's the NRaas Cupcake mod.
To extend the functionality of the canning station, check out Butterbot's Canning Station Overhaul at MTS. I helped test this out when it was back in beta and it's totally awesome -- there's around 100 different things this mod allows for that the station itself does not. You can even use it to make candles out of beeswax.

You may also find Ingredients Overhaul mods by BlackCat007 and Anak_Ponti in your travels. These are now outdated, Cinderellimouse took over this one and it's her versions that are current.
I'm probably leaving a couple of things and developers out by accident, but this might be enough to get you started. None of these mods conflict with each other, if anything these developers worked really hard to make their creations cross-compatible. But you do have to be careful not to install more than one version of the same mod as many of them offer different 'flavors' of the same thing on the same MTS pages.

I am realizing lately after playing 3 for years there are several areas of play I have not gone into as deeply as i would have liked so with a new world I am playing where I want food/gardening to take some precedence plus hopefully being able to sell some of the items seems like a good time to get myself clued up and play new scenarios - I wanted to download a bunch of these food mods too lately but they broke my game slightly, because I didn't have the cc-loader thing installed I think. So, we just have to put everything (including cc-loader) in our ordinary packages folder?My wishlist! Give items if you want!!! (RANDOM ORDER)

My top 5 - edited October 2017CCLoader is required for a lot of the mods. It does just go into the packages folder. The modders got together to make sure their mods didn't clash with each other and ccloader is the mod that sorts it all out to make sure they all work properly.
I think most of the mods that add recipes also add plants your sims can grow and harvest for ingredients.
I think @igazor gave a good description of who's making mods like this.
Here's a pic of some of the plants I have growing when I have a garden - which is most of the time.
I also use a mod so I can hire a gardener service. I use the home phone to hire them - the cell phones don't have the menu to hire them.

I usually order my recipes on the multi tabs so don't know which register they are purchased from - but I suspect it is the book store in the home world.

wonderful pics of plants I have spent a quite a while looking through mods for fruits/veg/recipes/harvesting etc but when you mentioned the hire a Gardner service this is this type of mod that I often use in game and am unsure about them clashing with others food style mods which is why I have not bothered until now when I have more time to do some research and testing. so I am pleased to find this mod also works with the other mods I am looking at as it's one I often use in game too.
I also saw some sort of food mod by Nona and am wondering if that would also be required for some foods if anyone knows. - edited October 2017Nona's script mod is from longer ago, is more complicated to use, and is only relevant for certain custom edible objects that need it, not ingredients, harvestables, or recipes. Examples would be her own edible raw meats and Sandy's custom pastries from Around The Sims. It's not required for anything that had been discussed here until now.
